Fairytale winter hiking is at its best around Freudenstadt. There are several options available to you. For particularly active visitors, we recommend the route to Kniebis (HEAVY), which is around 14 kilometres and takes 3.5 hours. There are several refreshment stops along the way so that you can catch your breath and warm up. Less demanding, but no less appealing are tours into the Reichenbach valley (EASY) with 1:45h or through the winter forest (EASY) with 2:15h. You can find this and many more tours here.
In case of bad weather we recommend our guests to visit the ice rink in Baiersbronn. It measures 30 x 45 metres and is unique within a radius of 60 kilometres. There is a zone for curling at the back of the hall. Those who prefer to watch can take a seat in the visitors’ stands. If you have an empty stomach or cold fingers, the kiosk next door is waiting. Numerous groomed trails offer beginners and experienced cross-country skiers unique conditions and unlimited winter fun. The cross-country ski trail network of around 100 kilometres runs around Freudenstadt and its districts, and the “Northern Black Forest” cross-country ski trail creates a great connection from Freudenstadt to the cross-country ski trails on the Black Forest High Road. There are also numerous ski lifts and pistes in Freudenstadt and along the Black Forest High Road that make the cold season a unique experience. At Christmas time, the Freudenstadt market square is transformed into an atmospheric winter wonderland. With the smell of mulled wine, roasted almonds and the like, you can stroll through narrow alleyways lined with a wide variety of stalls selling Christmas accessories to the sound of Christmas music.
