Tour de Murg
The river route along the Black Forest river has been named the ‘Tour de Murg’. And in fact, it’s not quite as far-fetched as you might think, because after all, the ‘Tour de France’ convoy followed the Murg for a while in 1987 and 2005 before heading back to France. A breath of great cycling history blows through the initially wild, sometimes even gorge-like valley, which then completely changes its character from Gernsbach onwards. Requirements: moderately difficult cycle tour mostly on forest tracks and cycle paths. Hardly any climbs, but a long, steady downhill from Freudenstadt to Gernsbach. Then mostly flat. Length 49 km or 67 km/ duration approx. 3 hours or 4 – 5 hours.

Forests & Meadows Tour
East of Freudenstadt, the landscape is much lovelier than on the sometimes somewhat rugged main ridge. Valleys criss-cross the hilly landscape, colourful meadows alternate with fields and forests and small villages nestle in hollows. The old town of Dornstetten, on the other hand, is completely different, perched on a steep mountain spur above a side valley of the Glatt river and visible from afar. In contrast to the sandstone and Renaissance town of Freudenstadt, half-timbered houses predominate in Dornstetten. The small alleyways and squares around St Martin’s Church have a cosy feel to them. In the Hallwangen district, the barefoot park attracts all those who want to slip out of their shoes. Requirements: Easy cycle tour without major differences in altitude. Length 37 km, duration approx. 2 – 3 hours.

Two-valley tour
The Two Valleys Tour connects the two most important valleys in the northern Black Forest: the Murg Valley drains the eastern main ridge to the north, while the Kinzig Valley takes in all the streams and rivulets of the entire southern northern Black Forest and the central Black Forest. Both rivers finally flow into the Rhine, reuniting the ‘Black Forest waters’. Freudenstadt lies exactly on the watershed between the Rhine and Neckar, separating the region’s two major river systems.Requirements: moderately difficult mountain bike tour (can also be ridden on a stable touring bike with some concessions), long ascent through the Sankenbach valley to the Wasenhütte and from the Kinzigtalsperre dam. Length 46 km / duration approx. 3.5 – 4 hours.
